Customer Portal - Settings

The Customer Portal Settings page is where you can change your HostGator account settings, such as your Password, account PIN, and Regional Tax Registration Numbers, if applicable. These may need to be changed or updated throughout your duration with HostGator. This article contains the following helpful instructions about how to:


Change Your Customer Portal Password

When it comes to updating or changing your Customer Portal Password, you have two options available. You may opt to create a new password yourself or generate a new password. Regardless of which option you choose, you will want to make sure that you use a strong password for your account. Please follow the steps listed below to guide you through both of these options to reset your HostGator Customer Portal Password.

Create a New Password

  1. Log into your Customer Portal.
    Note: If you cannot remember your password, click on the Forgot Password link below the login area. Then follow the instructions emailed to the primary email address on file to reset your HostGator Customer Portal password.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner, click on My Account to get a drop-down and select Settings.

  3. Within the Change Password section, the Create a New Password option should be selected.
  4. Enter your Current Password in the field listed.
  5. In the fields of New Password and Repeat New Password, enter the password you would like to use going forward.
    Note: When creating a new password for your Customer Portal, please use the Password Strength indictor to ensure the new password is strong. If you are unable to create a strong password, it is recommended to use the Generate a New Password feature to automatically create a new secure password. The Generate a New Password feature is outlined further down below.

  6. Select Change Password.
  7. You will receive a notification on the screen indicating that your password change was successful, as illustrated below.

Generate a New Password

Ensuring you have a strong password is the best step towards protecting your sensitive information, but sometimes it can be a challenge to create a unique password that fits your security needs. The Generate a New Password feature does the hard work for you and provides you with a safe and secure password of your desired length.

  1. Log into your Customer Portal.
    Note: If you cannot remember your password, click on the Forgot Password link below the login area. Then follow the instructions emailed to the primary email address on file to reset your HostGator Customer Portal password.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner, click on My Account to get a drop-down and select Settings.

  3. Within the Change Password section, select the tab to Generate a New Password.
  4. Enter your Current Password in the field listed.
  5. Select the Number of Digits you wish the password to be in length.
    Note: Number of Digits refers to the number of characters within your newly generated password. It does not indicate that all characters will be numeric.
  6. Click Generate.
  7. If you are not satisfied with the new password, you can select Generate again to have an alternate password generated for you. Additionally, you can edit the Number of Digits if you would like to make the password longer or shorter.
  8. If you are satisfied with your new password, please ensure you save it somewhere safe and then select Change Password.
  9. You will receive a notification on the screen indicating that your password change was successful, as illustrated below.

Changing the Security PIN for Your Account

The security PIN for your account will be a 4 to 8 digit number that only you will know. Your PIN will be all numeric and is used to confirm that we are speaking with the actual account owner when speaking with our Support Team.

  1. Log into your Customer Portal.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner, click on My Account to get a drop-down and select Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the Change PIN section, and click on the Email PIN Reset Link.

  4. A message will appear on the screen indicating that an email has been sent to the primary email address with a reset password link.

  5. From your email, access the link to change the Security PIN for the account.

  6. Enter the Primary Email Address for the Customer Portal account, followed by your new PIN in the next two boxes, and then click the Reset PIN button.

Adding Your Regional Tax Registration Numbers

Some countries and credit card issuers require customers to provide additional information when purchasing goods and services. The different regional registrations HostGator supports can be found in this section of the Customer Portal Settings. Customers in those specific regions have the ability to manage that information in this section of the Customer Portal Settings.

  1. Log into your Customer Portal.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner, click on My Account to get a drop-down and select Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the Regional Tax Registration Numbers section, and click on the appropriate tax region listed.
  4. Provide the Registration Number or Tax Exemption ID, and click Save.
  5. A success message will appear if the Tax Registration Number was updated successfully.
