Which Domain Names Can Be Hosted by HostGator?
While we can host any domain, we cannot register all domains. For details on which domains HostGator can register, please see the following article:
We can host any domain name as long as you can point the DNS to us and as long as it is not registered with an embargoed country. In addition, some domains require a specific configuration in order to work. Here are some of the TLDs that require a specific setup.
.co.cc
The Second-Level Domain (SLD) .co.cc is currently the only SLD not available to be applied to our shared servers due to the way that the domain works.
.de (Germany)
The German registry also must have a valid email address set for the SOA in the domain. Please contact us via phone or chat to request that we update your DNS zone with your preferred email address.
.hu (Hungary)
The Hungarian registry requires that the email address provided in the SOA record of the DNS zone is a valid and existing email address. Please contact us via phone or chat to request that we update your DNS zone with your preferred email address.
.is (Iceland)
The Icelandic registry requires the name server's technical contact to become the zone contact for all .is domains delegated to the name server. Therefore, the zone contact must be whoever administers the name server. ISNIC contacts the domain's zone contact in case of technical difficulties with the name servers, and this contact must have systemic access to the name server and be able to fix DNS-technical problems. Please contact us via phone or chat to request that we set this up for you.
.ac.za and .co.za (South Africa)
These TLDs will support the use of shared name servers; however, when using private name servers on a .ac.za or a .co.za domain, PTR records are required. The PTR records for the IPs assigned to the name servers must reflect the domain's name servers. If the name server IPs do not return the name servers when doing a PTR lookup, the registrar will not allow the name server to be added to the registration record. Please contact us via phone or chat to request that we set this up for you.
A PTR record is not sufficient justification for a dedicated IP. As a workaround, Reseller customers that require a PTR record for the private name servers may use a different domain to create the private name servers. For more information, please see:
If you still wish to or are required to use these TLDs, you will need to upgrade to VPS or Dedicated hosting, which comes with dedicated IPs.
