Reset HostGator Password: What to Do If I Forgot It
In this article, you will find information on how to reset HostGator passwords for the various accounts linked to your web hosting plan. Some password resets may require HostGator Support, while others can be changed quickly in just a few steps.
Reset HostGator Password
cPanel
Check your Welcome email for the correct username and password. If your cPanel login is not working, follow the instructions below to reset your cPanel password:
Customer Portal
Your Customer Portal login uses your email address and the password you signed up with.
If your password is not working, reset your HostGator Customer Portal password:
- Go to https://portal.hostgator.com/login using your browser.
- Click the Forgot Your Password link.
- Provide the email address associated with your billing account.
- Click on Request Reset.
- Check your billing email address, then follow the instructions to reset your password.

Database
If the database password cannot be retrieved from your site’s configuration file, you must create a new database user.
You do not need the old password to create a new one. To change your email password, use the steps in this article:
Parallels SiteBuilder
Check your support ticket for your original SiteBuilder username and password. If those credentials do not work, contact Support via phone or chat for assistance.
Reseller's Customer
Resellers can reset passwords for customer accounts through WHM:
- Log in to WHM.
- Go to Account Functions.
- Click Password Modification.
- Select the account domain name or username for the password you wish to modify.
- Type the new password.
- Enter your new password again to confirm the change.
- Click Change Password.
Website Admin
If software was installed via Softaculous, you can reset your website admin password through cPanel. For manual installs, HostGator may not be able to reset your admin password due to custom configurations.
