Account Limits Summary

When hosting a site with HostGator, regardless of the size of the site or the server, users have limitations depending on the resources available on their respective servers. This article will assist in understanding these limitations.

CPU Resource Usage

CPU usage is the number of tasks and processes running on a computer at any given time. This limitation applies to all HostGator servers. For more information on these limits, please visit the following article.

Shared and Reseller accounts

There is a limit of 25% CPU usage that is applied on a per cPanel basis.

VPS and Dedicated server accounts

These accounts can use 100% of the CPU; however, VPS customers must note that their use is only a portion of the server's total resources.

Processes Limits

Processes are a series of actions or functions occurring on a server at any time. This limitation applies to all HostGator servers. For more information on these limits, please visit the following articles:

Shared and Reseller accounts

There is a limit of 25 simultaneous processes per cPanel.

VPS and Dedicated server accounts

These customers can adjust the number of processes with no enforced limit. This limitation also applies to SQL connections.

Inode Limits

An inode stores basic information about a regular file, directory, or other file system object. The number of inodes indicates the number of files and folders you have. The inode limitation applies to all HostGator servers, excluding Dedicated hosting. For more information on these limits, please review the following articles:

Shared and Reseller accounts

There is a soft limit of 100,000 files per cPanel; however, accounts that exceed over 250,000 files will be in direct violation of our Terms of Service and will be susceptible to being suspended.

VPS accounts

The inode limit for the KVM VPS is set to ten million inodes. If you need a higher inode limit, HostGator recommends hosting on a Dedicated server.

Bandwidth Limits

Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred to and from your account in one month. Whenever someone downloads a 10 KB file from your website, they use 10 KB of bandwidth from your account. Also, whenever someone visits your site, they download the home page and use that much bandwidth. More information can be found in the following articles:
