Change Your DNS - Reseller Startup Guide
Part 2 of 9 of the Reseller Startup Guide
In order to get your website working, you must change your name servers. This is an easy, but necessary, step you must complete to get started. If you are setting up a new website, then this is the appropriate time to complete this step.
Important: If you are transferring your site from another web hosting account, then it is recommended that you skip to Step 3: Creating Packages and come back to this step AFTER uploading your content in step 5 to prevent any downtime for your existing website.
- If you registered your domain name with HostGator, you would still need to point your domain name to your assigned name servers.
- If you have registered your domain name with another company (e.g. GoDaddy, NameCheap, etc.), you must follow the steps outlined on this page: http://www.hostgator.com/dns.shtml
- If you need to set up private name servers (i.e. ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com), please see this page: http://www.hostgator.com/privatenameservers.shtml
Once your DNS changes have been made, it takes roughly 24-48 hours for your web site to start resolving to HostGator's servers. To avoid downtime during the move, please read our moving page.
If it takes longer than two days for your website to start working, please contact our support team.
