Recurring Charges: What You Need to Know

Recurring charges are automatic payments made at set intervals, often linked to subscriptions and bills. To ensure a smooth payment experience, we recommend contacting our Support team via phone or chat if you have any questions or concerns about your recurring payments, especially if you notice an unexpected charge.

While HostGator may not always have specific insights into why a payment method is declined, understanding the common causes can help you avoid these issues. Here are a few factors that can contribute to such payment failures:

  • The account does not have sufficient funds.
  • The card on file has expired or is no longer valid.
  • The card on file has been reported as lost or stolen and has been deactivated by the issuing authority.
  • The charge was flagged by the issuing bank for possible fraud.

In addition to the reasons mentioned above, it is becoming increasingly common for issuing companies to require customers to provide the security code from the back of their credit cards alongside recurring payment requests. Unfortunately, HostGator cannot store this security code due to legal restrictions. This means that some cards may work for the first payment but fail for future ones. Your options are to use a different credit card or log in each month to manage your account and pay your invoice manually.

For added flexibility in your banking transactions, consider using PayPal as an alternative payment method.
