How to Configure WS_FTP
WS_FTP uses a feature called the Connection Wizard to generate connections to various websites and their respective servers. The Connection Wizard allows users to easily configure the proper settings to create these connections.
Accessing the Connection Wizard
After launching WS_FTP:
- Go to the Connections menu.
- Select New Connection.
- Create a name for the site.
- Click the Next button.
- Select a Connection Type (for FTP, select FTP).
- Click the Next button.
- Provide the Server Address (can be a domain, if pointed to %%BRAND%%, or the IP address).
- Click the Next button.
Once completed, the local machine will automatically be connected to the hosting server via FTP or the connection you selected
Using the Site Manager
The organization and manipulation of site connections and groups are done through the Site Manager feature of WS_FTP.
Opening the Site Manager
To open the Site Manager:
- Go to the Connections menu.
- Select Site Manager.
The Site Manager popup window will appear.
Creating a New Folder
To create a new folder:
- Open Site Manager.
- Click the Create Folder button.
- Provide a name for the folder.
- Click OK.
Creating a New Site Connection
To create a new site connection:
- Open Site Manager.
- Click the Create Site button.
You will then be taken to the Connection Wizard to provide the connection settings.
Moving Sites and Folders
Sites and folders can be moved in the Site Manager by clicking, dragging and dropping the items into the desired destination. When moving items about in the Site Manager, you will be given a placement confirmation prompt. Simply click Yes to continue.
Multiple Site Connections
WS_FTP gives users the ability to make multiple connections and have the connections organized and separated by tabs. To utilize this feature:
- Click on the Connection icon to select the sites to be connected to.
- Upon clicking the site name, a new connection tab will open on the right side of the screen and will automatically connect.
Users can navigate between connections by clicking on the individual tab while the other connections remain unaffected.
