Reputation Monitoring

What is it?

Reputation monitoring looks at multiple search engines' proprietary and spam email blacklists to ensure that your domain, email address, and email server are not listed on them. Monitoring these blacklists and alerting you if your site appears on one allows you to address the issue and request blacklist removal as quickly as possible - ensuring that your customers can continue to access your site. SiteLock adds additional value by proactively protecting your website in three key ways:

  • Blacklist monitoring: SiteLock monitors search engine and proprietary lists of sites reported as malicious to ensure that your site is not on them. If your site is found to be on a malware blacklist, you will be notified via email -- allowing you to correct the issue.
  • Email spam blacklist monitoring: SiteLock compares your email address, domain name, and email server to industry and proprietary lists used by popular email programs to identify which messages to mark as "Spam." If your email address, domain, or server is found on a spam blacklist, you will be notified via email. You may need to contact your email service provider to correct this issue.
  • SSL Scanning: If you have an SSL certificate installed on your site for data encryption, SiteLock will scan that certificate to verify that it is not expired or otherwise out of compliance with web browser requirements. This prevents users from seeing warnings about data security when they visit your site.

HostGator is happy to provide a special offer for customers interested in SiteLock:

What is the impact?

If your website is on blacklists without your knowledge, your visitors may receive warnings about data security or malicious content on your website. Additionally, if your email server is blacklisted, your customers may not be receiving your email messages. This can negatively impact revenue or reputation for your business, losses you may not be aware of at the moment.

How does SiteLock protect me?

SiteLock scanners verify your website, email, and SSL to ensure that your site remains available to your customers. If you ever get included on one of these blacklists or non-compliance lists, the SiteLock Expert Services team can help get you back up and running as quickly as possible.

What can I do about it?

Taking a proactive approach to website security will help ensure that your site does not end up on a blacklist. This includes providing your applications are up-to-date, strong passwords are in use, and using a malware scanner. Use a website scanning service that provides reputation management, such as SiteLock Essentials, Prevent, or Prevent Plus.
