iWeb

Apple iWeb is a template-based WYSIWYG website creation tool. Your iWeb program is designed by default to publish a site to your MobileMe account (formerly your .mac account); however, you can publish to another hosting company, like HostGator.

Instructions will vary depending on the version of the software you have.

Version 3 or Newer

To publish your site:

  1. Open iWeb and select the name of the site you wish to publish from the list in the left sidebar. The site publishing settings window will appear.
  2. Choose the FTP server from the Publish drop-down menu in the settings window.
  3. Enter the following information:
    • Shared IP address from your welcome email (As FTP server address)
    • Username for cPanel
    • Password for cPanel
    • Port 21
  4. Click Test Connection. This will ensure that the information has been correctly entered.
  5. Enter the URL for your website.
  6. Click Publish Site.
iWeb may appear to publish to a folder that is not what you have specified. However, this is simply how iWeb works, and everything will publish correctly.

Older Versions

To publish your site:

  1. Open iWeb and select the site you wish to publish.
  2. From the file menu, select Publish to a Folder.
  3. Select a folder or create a new one where you want to publish your site.
  4. Enter your website URL in the box below the file selector.
  5. Click Choose to export your site.
    • You may need to verify your ownership of the site content.

You will now have a copy of your site in the selected folder. You must use an FTP program such as Filezilla to publish this site to your hosting account.
