Transfer Tickets Getting Started
Please submit the online form to initiate your content transfers. If you want extra transfers beyond the free ones, you can ask for those in the online form and our transfer department will reply with a quote on the price.
Telephone and live chat agents cannot quote the price for you, as the transfer department will determine that when they get your request.
We would request that you be aware that the migration process may take longer than the average support request. This is due to the complexity of this process, connection speed between your old host and new hosting account, and to ensure that each website is thoroughly reviewed upon completion. The entire process can take 72 hours or longer. Please ensure that your old hosting account remains available until the process can be fully completed. If your old hosting account becomes unavailable during the process, we may not be able to complete the process or correct any errors.

Email accounts normally cannot be transferred. However, if your previous host uses cPanel and your new account with HostGator has cPanel, then we can move your email accounts intact (as well as addon domains, subdomains, and other cPanel configurations).
Content transfers merely make a copy of your website code and databases. The domain name you own will remain under the control of your registrar. If you want to "transfer" the control of your domain registration to HostGator, you will need this separate form.
Hosts we cannot transfer from:
- Website Tonight
- Google Sites
We also cannot transfer from hosts that do not allow access to your website files (typically by FTP) and/or databases and/or the data in those databases. Without access, we cannot copy and transfer your site. Most hosts do give you access, but many don't.
Common problems which delay the transfers:
We must have either FTP access or cPanel access to perform transfers. Transfer forms being submitted without correct information. We then need to contact you, which delays the transfer.
For example, we often see people putting 220.127.116.11 for the "IP address / Hostname" field because they do not know it. But without the correct IP address or hostname, we cannot transfer your site, since we won't know where to find it.
Please remember, all the correct information needs to be submitted for the transfer to go smoothly.
Changing your passwords during the transfer process is a detrimental mistake. We all appreciate security, but if you change the passwords, then we cannot access your accounts.
