Spam Filter for Plesk

Windows Shared Servers

At this time, there are no settings that can be adjusted for Spam Assassin on our shared servers. It is automatically turned on and working. If you have an issue with Spam, please contact our support staff via phone or chat to adjust your weights. Please have spam mail available as this will be necessary for correct adjustment.

As of July 2019, new Windows Dedicated Servers will come with MailEnable Standard as the webmail application. It is possible to access the Spam Assassin settings through Plesk.

If you are on a Windows Dedicated Server purchased before July 2019, SmarterMail was the default webmail application. There are a few settings that may be modified by logging into the SmarterMail Admin. It is highly suggested to use the default settings as they are optimal in most cases. In addition to the Spam Assassin settings, you may also adjust the weight settings for your Spam filter in SmarterMail.

The settings differ if you are Using MailEnable or SmarterMail. Please on the links below to jump into a section:

Changing Weights for Incoming Mail For SMarterMail

Your server decides what email to filter based on the weight it assigns to the email. The weight of email by default is 0. There are several filters that the email passes through. Each filter that catches the email adds points to its weight. If it passes all filters, its weight will remain 0. It is possible to configure your server to allow email to achieve negative points. Some versions of SmarterMail can alter these weights.

After the email has passed through all filters and has its final weight, the server decides what to do with it using the action weights. By default, they are 10, 20, 30, routing email that achieves a weight of 20 to the Spam filter and deleting email that achieves a weight of 30 from the server entirely.

We do not recommend altering these settings yourself and would be happy to assist with adjusting your weights. For assistance, please contact us via phone or chat with a copy of the email you would like filtered, and we would be happy to adjust your settings.
