It might seem unusual for a blog to need SSL, but consider for a moment the fact that when users log in they will be transmitting their passwords in the clear. To improve our blog's security, we will be making some modifications to the blog a bit later on. However, one of the requirements for those changes (specifically, secured logins) is that we have SSL enabled on our site.

Before discussing how to apply a new SSL certificate to your site in Plesk, we should first obtain a basic understanding of SSL and how the general process of obtaining a certificate works.
