Using a Shared SSL to Access cPanel

cPanel provides a secure way to manage your hosting account through an encrypted HTTPS connection. You can access cPanel using your website's IP address, server hostname, or secure server hostname, combined with the secure cPanel port 2083. Depending on the method used, your browser may display a security certificate warning before allowing access. This is expected when the SSL certificate does not match the address entered in the browser.

This article explains the recommended methods for securely accessing cPanel and what to do if you encounter a browser security warning.

Access cPanel using your website’s IP address

If you know your website's IP address, enter the following URL in your browser:

https://YourSitesIPAddress:2083

Example:

https://192.0.2.10:2083

A browser security warning may appear because the SSL certificate is not issued specifically for your site's IP address. You can bypass the warning and continue to the login page if you trust the connection.

Access cPanel using your server hostname (Recommended)

If you know your server's hostname, use one of the following URLs:

https://ServerName:2083

https://SecureServerName:2083

Example

https://gator1234.hostgator.com:2083

https://secure1234.hostgator.com:2083

Using the server hostname is generally the preferred method because the SSL certificate is typically configured for the server name, which helps avoid certificate warnings.
