Ruby on Rails and Gems
Ruby on Rails (RoR) is an open-source web application framework. It aims to increase the speed and ease with which database-driven web sites can be created.
Ruby on Rails runs on Apache CGI.
Available Version
Version information:
- Ruby Version : 1.8.7
- Gem Version : 1.8.30
- Rails Version : 2.3.18 (you may need to request this update)
Installed Modules
Currently we have the following modules installed:
actionmailer | actionpack | actionwebservice |
activerecord | activesupport | gnuplot |
mongrel | mysql | tidy |
xml-simple | payment | rake |
bluecloth | feedtools | htmltools |
subversion |
VPS and Dedicated servers are less restrictive when requesting/applying modules.
eRuby is not supported because Ruby runs as CGI on the shared servers. Additionally, eRuby requires mod_ruby to be installed, which we do not have.
The above is a list of plugins (modules/gems) not actual executable programs. Some of these modules can be installed as programs, but only on dedicated servers, not on shared.
Additional Information
Some servers may still have Rails 2.3.5. We can upgrade it to 2.3.8 upon request.
On shared and reseller servers, each cPanel can run up to four (4) Ruby on Rails applications at once. If you are wanting to run more, you should switch to use mod_passenger or run their applications through fcgi.
