How to Transfer Files with SmartFTP
Once you are connected to the server using SmartFTP, transferring files is simplified to a simple drag and drop process.
An FTP connection must be established in order to manage files via FTP.
Transferring Files
- To transfer files directly from your local machine, simply click the file before dragging and dropping it into the FTP screen from the program window or your desktop.
- To transfer the files through the FTP client without multiple windows, drag and drop from one side of the FTP client window to the other (depending on if the files are moving to or from the remote server).
- An alternative to the dragging and dropping of files within the FTP client is to click on the file to be transferred then click on the arrow buttons between the two panes, indicating whether the transfer is to be to the remote server or your local machine.
SmartFTP has additional options for transferring files, such as setting up filters for selective transferring. For more information on setting this up, please see the SmartFTP knowledge base article: How to Selectively Transfer Files.
