How to Enable Caching in Drupal

In order to increase the performance of Drupal, especially for busy sites, you may want to enable caching. The instructions below are for general website cache settings; however more options for caching tools and modules can be found by searching the official Drupal website; we recommend Drupal Boost.

Drupal 7 Caching Instructions

To enable caching for Drupal 7, follow the directions below:

  1. Log into Drupal as the administrator.
  2. Go to Configuration on the top menu.
  3. Click on the Performance link.
  4. Check the box for Cache Blocking and any other desired settings.
  5. Click Save Configuration to save changes.

Drupal 6 Caching Instructions

To enable caching for Drupal 6, follow the directions below:

  1. Log into Drupal as the administrator.
  2. Go to Site Configuration.
  3. Choose Performance.
  4. Under the Caching mode section, select Normal.
  5. Under the Block cache section, select Enabled.
  6. Click Save Configuration to save the changes.
