How to Change Billing Cycles, I Want to Pay in Advance

HostGator allows you to either make unscheduled advanced payments on your account or change your billing cycle, so your regular automatic billing payments can use your preferred billing term.

We continuously improve our system to ensure you have access to all the features you need to manage your account with HostGator. With this in mind, customers on a New Shared, KVM VPS, and Dedicated hosting can update their billing cycles within the Customer Portal.

This article will discuss the following topics:

Changing your billing cycle

You must first be aware of the Package ID prefix for your hosting to use this functionality within the Customer Portal. The following is one way to view the Package ID prefix to determine if you are on a New or Legacy hosting plan.

  • New Shared / KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) VPS / Dedicated hosting
    • New Shared - Package ID begins with SW for Shared hosting.
    • New KVM VPS - Package ID begins with VH for VPS hosting.
    • New Dedicated - Package ID begins with DH for Dedicated hosting.
  • Legacy Shared / VPS / Dedicated hosting
    • Legacy Shared - Package ID begins with SH for the Shared hosting.
    • Legacy VPS - Package ID begins with VPS for VPS hosting.
    • Legacy Dedicated - Package ID begins with DC for Dedicated hosting.

When changing billing cycles:

  • Changes in the billing cycle will take effect on the next renewal date. We highly recommend waiting until the end of your current billing cycle to take advantage of the savings from the initial registration.
  • New Shared, KVM VPS, and new Dedicated hosting customers can now update their billing cycle within their Customer Portals.
  • Legacy VPS and Dedicated plans, including Shared, Cloud, and OWP hosting plans, cannot have their billing cycle changed in the Customer Portal at this time.
  • Note: New VPS and Dedicated sign-ups can select a recurring billing cycle of up to 1 year. At the same time, new Shared sign-ups can choose a recurring billing cycle of up to 3 years.
