Professional Email - How Many Emails Can I Send and Receive?
HostGator Professional Email sets hourly and daily caps on the messages you send and receive, which helps keep accounts secure and mail traffic steady. Which caps apply to you depends on your plan: Professional Email, Professional Email Plus, or Professional Email Ultra. Below, you'll find each limit and what to expect if you reach one.
- "Same domain" means a message sent to another mailbox on your own domain. "Different domain" means a message sent to an address that belongs to another domain.
- A message addressed to one recipient counts as one email.
Outgoing Email Limits
Every mailbox has its own outgoing limits, and the amount depends on whether you're writing to a mailbox on your own domain or to a different domain.
| Plan | Same-domain emails per hour | Same-domain emails per day | External emails per hour | External emails per day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Professional Email | 1,000 | 2,000 | 200 | 500 |
| Professional Email Plus | 1,000 | 2,000 | 300 | 1,000 |
| Professional Email Ultra | 1,000 | 2,000 | 500 | 2,000 |
The external limit for your whole domain adds up the limits of all active mailboxes on it. Suspended, inactive, and deleted mailboxes are left out of the total.
When you hit an outgoing limit, additional emails won't go out and may bounce back as undelivered. A higher plan gives you a larger external sending allowance.
- A domain that has just been added to HostGator Professional Email begins with lower sending limits while it builds a trusted sending reputation.
- Once your domain has a good sending history, the limits increase gradually until you reach the full amount your plan includes.
- This gives email providers a chance to get to know your domain and makes it less likely that your messages are marked as spam.
For a domain that's new to HostGator Professional Email, upgrading your plan may not raise you to the full limits immediately. Those limits open up after your domain has enough sending history.
Incoming Email Limits
Each mailbox can take in up to 1,000 emails per hour from senders on your own domain and up to 500 emails per hour from other domains. These incoming limits don't change from plan to plan.
Incoming Limits for Non-Existent Mailboxes
Your domain has a soft limit of 500 emails per hour and 1,000 emails per day for messages sent to mailboxes that don't exist. After you reach it, the domain stops accepting mail for those non-existent addresses. Messages to your real mailboxes are still delivered, unless those mailboxes hit their own limits.
