Webmail access is not only a convenient way to manage your email, but it’s also a usual avenue for troubleshooting and backing up your email, should you run into issues requiring you to do so.

In this article, we will cover what to do to go about securing a backup of the email within a particular folder in your OX webmail.

Backing up email:

  1. To begin, first, navigate to the email section of your HostGator account.

  2. Ensure that you have an email set-up by checking the List of addresses.

(If you need to set up more or a new email address, check out:   )

  3. Look for “Launch Webmail” button towards the top right-hand corner of the Manage Email Addresses screen.

  4. You will land on a screen where you can enter your email address and password to log in.

  5. If you forgot your password, you could update that from the “Manage Email Addresses” screen by selecting the kebab menu (3 stacked dots) next to the word “Active” from your list of email addresses.

  6. Once you land inside your webmails main account screen, you’ll want to navigate to the folder you want to back up as the steps are the same, but this process will only grab folders at a time.

  7. Check the “Select All” option to grab everything in this folder.

  8. Next, click on the three horizontal lines known as the “Hamburger Menu” to reveal a set of options.

  9. From this drop-down menu, look for and Select “Save as File.”

  10. Once you select “Save as File,” a file will appear in the destination you choose. (Typically you can find this in your “Recent Downloads Folder” on your computer.)

That’s it! Repeat the process for the different folders in the account like your sent, junk, or custom folders.

Pro Tip: Using third-party mail clients as outlook or Thunderbird may also give you this ability as well, which is always a good idea having multiple backup solutions.
