As a small business owner, how do you update your website (and keep your customers informed) if you don\u2019t have power or WIFI?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s time to pull out that smartphone or tablet with data. Here are some quick updates you can make from your phone to keep your customers informed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-update-your-wordpress-site-from-your-phone\">How to update your WordPress site from your phone&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To update your WordPress site from your phone, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.wordpress.com\/mobile\/\">download the WordPress.com app for iOS or Android<\/a><\/strong>. You can create and edit pages, update copy, and even make tweaks to your theme directly from this app.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select 'enter your existing site address'\u009d after you install the app on your phone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/GMjW1nwL2Q6QAyT-bkpADfTViRDW7Du3vjKmWrj94rIpjCcg8s6iz69lLCQKlIvjiXVOdoGW5jJXAiCtxSCegnZUNfzydoduUzziOJlLiACQQSKSLxC-gcVWjrZfdqoCBsePW9Pj\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter your web address and<strong> login with your WordPress website username and password<\/strong>.<em> Remember: this may be different than your HostGator username and password.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This app is pretty powerful, but <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/go\/content-blogging\/wordpress-com-mobile-updates-how-to-update-your-site-on-the-go\/\">WordPress recommends<\/a> that you leave heavy updates (like adding plugins) for when you\u2019re back at a computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-you-re-logged-in-now-what\">You\u2019re logged in&#8230;now what?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you have business hours listed on your website? If so, update that page with current hours. And label it with a date (For example: 'Current as of DATE'\u009d)&nbsp; so people know you have updated it for the storm, emergency, etc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Got lots of updates or new procedures to share? Create a new page for weather updates and put a big link on your homepage so it\u2019s easy to find. Then edit this page each time you have an update to share. Add a date with each update so people know the information is current.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-update-your-social-media\">Update your social media<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of your customers will turn to social media to check on family and friends. And they may turn here first to check on your business as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make a simple post that tells people IF you are open and when you plan to open again.<strong> 'Pin'\u009d this post to the top of your feed so it\u2019s easy to find.<\/strong> And plan to update this post whenever your current status changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/pKpX5bQ9tqPiMAHrVpPMeNGRhxTpHEwhY0im3xoB-yw2jTyPWgH8GSlWN2effN6u9wjWVBRgmP9W50SebY1UKvNOsfy3QJcI0yS9u7kdX2R0jqIsj7ZFARZO18uJuZVnW3q2LEjU\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You can add additional details such as how you plan to handle rescheduling appointments or fulfilling orders, etc by commenting on the post.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Often social media platforms are best optimized when using your business manager page, such as Facebook Pages Manager app. But, in a pinch, you can login through a browser and get out a quick update.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-notify-your-customers-directly\">Notify your customers directly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Got access to customer email addresses and phone numbers? This might be the time to start a text message system or emails to your customers. It\u2019s especially important to update customers that are trying to find out about their upcoming appointments &#8211; such as a dentist, chiropractor, or veterinarian office.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But don\u2019t forget to state your business name in the text.
