Many retailers launch their holiday campaigns in October to catch the eyes of early-bird shoppers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, some big retailers and analysts expect consumers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/target-talks-christmas-in-july-with-holiday-shopping-announcement-2020-07-27\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">begin holiday shopping earlier than normal<\/a>-so you want to be ready to connect with them when they\u2019re ready to start spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this post, we\u2019re drawing on the wisdom of our web pros Blair Williamson, Emily Hill and Jana Thibodeaux. Their webinar on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostgator.com\/blog\/resources\/webinar-epic-holiday-social-campaigns\/\">holiday social marketing<\/a> is worth watching in full, especially if you have questions after you finish reading this post or want the details on how to create great campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xxfDISE0vF4\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/center>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a holiday marketing campaign, anyway?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A holiday marketing campaign is simply a series of marketing messages that support one or more of your business goals for the holiday season. Your goal might be to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Grow your audience.<\/strong> This is often the most important for new stores, because the bigger your audience, the more potential customers you can reach with each message.<\/li><li><strong>Increase brand awareness.<\/strong> As your audience grows, remind people of what\u2019s awesome and appealing about your store. That might sound vague, but those repeated contacts (aka touchpoints) are the key to earning sales. Google has found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkwithgoogle.com\/feature\/search-intent-marketing-funnel\/#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shoppers encounter 20 to more than 300 touchpoints<\/a> before they make a consumer-goods purchase.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>More click-throughs and conversions.<\/strong> This is the goal most SMB owners think of first when they think of marketing: getting people to visit their site and buy things.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Marketing campaigns also have a time frame<\/strong> based on what people are buying during a particular time of year. Decide when you\u2019ll launch and when you\u2019ll wrap it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And <strong>every good holiday marketing campaign has a theme<\/strong>, which is the messaging you want to share with your audience. Yours should be based on the promo plans you worked up for your store after our last post. For example, maybe your store\u2019s big holiday promotion is a gift guide that includes home decor tutorials using your store\u2019s products, and your tagline is Deck Your Halls.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With your goal (new followers and more sales), your timeline (October through December) and your theme (Deck Your Halls), you\u2019re officially ready to dive into your campaign\u2019s details.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What marketing channels will you use to promote your holiday campaign?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>How do you communicate with your customers? Most eCommerce businesses use a mix of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostgator.com\/blog\/email-marketing-ecommerce-guide\/\">email marketing<\/a>, blog posts and social media-but some channels typically deliver better results than others.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Whichever channels get the best responses from your audience are the ones where your campaign should focus.<\/strong> The other channels can act as reinforcements, so your followers there aren\u2019t left out of the loop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, let\u2019s say your home d\u00c3\u00a9cor store gets the most comments, shares and click-throughs from your Instagram Stories, the next-most engagement from your email newsletters, and less from your Facebook posts. It\u2019s probably best to focus on cool holiday promo content for Instagram and email. Then you can promote your Insta campaign and email newsletter signup on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What about paid search ads?<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostgator.com\/services\/ppc\">Paid search ads<\/a> can be an effective way to drive traffic to your store. However, during the holiday season you may have to bid higher than you would at other times of the year. If your goal is click-throughs, you need another couple of elements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostgator.com\/blog\/content-marketing-101-call-action\/\">call to action<\/a><\/strong>-like Enter Now, Share or Sign Up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A link in your call to action<\/strong>-to your product page, landing page, email signup form or something else related to your campaign. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostgator.com\/blog\/free-utm-builder-small-business-tracking-urls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Make it trackable<\/a> so you can see where your traffic comes from.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you put together each post or email message, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostgator.com\/blog\/setup-content-calendar-small-business\/\">add it to your content calendar<\/a> so you can see your whole campaign schedule at a glance and stay on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How will you deliver your holiday promo content?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Content automation tools are like the elves that make your Santa\u2019s workshop run smoothly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can <strong>set up your email promotions as a drip campaign<\/strong>, with automated sends based on customer actions. Now there\u2019s one more important step that will make all of this easier next holiday season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As your campaign runs-and after it ends-you can see how well each piece of promo content performs in your Google Analytics, email marketing program and social media dashboards. The content that does the most to help you reach your goals is the kind you\u2019ll want to do more of in future campaigns.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve got a plan to reach more customers, raise your store\u2019s profile and\/or get more click-throughs to your site, it\u2019s time to think about what people will buy when they get there.
